sizes: 2/3 yrs (circ. 5.5"/14cm), 4/5 yrs (circ. 6"/15.25 cm), 6/7 yrs (circ. 6.5"/16.5cm), 8 yrs/wm sm (circ. 7"/17.75cm)

materials & gauge:

approx 70 gm/150 yds worsted weight yarn (shown in Cascade 220 - band info: 4.5st/US 8 or 5st/US 7 needles)
if using 2 colors, approx 70 yds of second color

hook: 4.25mm (US G) or size necessary to achieve gauge

gauge: 19 st/17.5 r = 4"/10 cm in sc

note: because the decreases on this mitten are evenly distributed around the mitten, the pattern works for either the right or left hand ... just “roll” the palm so that the thumb appears in the proper spot when putting them on.

DAY 1

CUFF
worked flat

for one color mittens, leave a 12” tail for joining. ch 8/9/10/11 (1½”(1¾”, 2”, 2¼”) +1 ch), sc in bl of 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. ch-1, turn. ( 7 st)

sc in bl of first st and each st across. ch-1, turn. repeat until 19/23/27/31 rows have been worked and cuff is 5”, 5 ½”, 6”, 6 ½” in length.

do not join. remainder of mitten will be worked in spiral fashion. for a more defined spiral line, work the st in the back loop (this stitch pattern looks great from the wrong side too!). place a marker to identify the beginning of the round.

from ribbing

(3.2cm/3.8cm/4.5cm/5.1 cm) less than desired length.
